We want your portraits to reflect who your family is. So, we are about to work together on exactly what that should look like.
Your family portraits should reflect who you, and your family truly are. We work hard to create portraits that speak to the core of our people, and showcase what makes them unique.
Good Humans is the idea that we have spent over a decade photographing kind people of all walks of life, and that our commitment is to spend the time to get to know you, what makes you tick, and photograph THAT.
The Process
Our portrait experience is, frankly, unique.
From here on out, we are working together to find the exact right place, time, and day to make sure that your portraits showcase your family’s genuine spirit and personality.

We have a process to help us pick all of these, but we really want to make sure that they vibe with what makes you sincerely happy.

Frequently asked questions
Where are we going?
We will gather some basic info about your family, your energy, and your interests. We will use that to create a Date, Time, Location concept. We can do anything from your home/airbnb, to hiking to the top of a sandy dune at sunrise. The adventure is in your hands.
What time is best?
ALL of our shoots are based on the sun. That means that anytime you are shooting with us, you are in the best light of the day. So, you do NOT have to worry about that.
That being said, the closer we are to sunrise and sunset the softer the light generally is (but, it might change, trust your photographer if you hear otherwise)
What if my kids are not "on their best behavior"?
Unless we have shot together before, we might have a difference of opinion on what is "best behavior". I want to see your kids at their best. Their most silly, funny, and creative. Plus, when you let them be themselves, and don't try to control them, it allows me to make specific asks for "nice" photos along side those silly ones.
You are going to hear this a lot... but trust your photographer, and the process, and it will be amazing!
Do I have to have an idea for a location?
Of course not! We always value your input on where we are going, but we scout new locations all the time, and would love to show you OUR favorite spots. Basically, you give us an idea of what you like/who you are, and we will come up with the rest.
Are we going to get ... (wet, sweaty, dirty, tired, enlightenment)?
This is totally up to your family energy. If we have someone with mobility issues, we can stick to trails and paths. If you are a rock-climbing family, we can totally get to the peak. Want to get in the water? Just make sure you have towels and a change of clothes for everyone. We don't want anyone uncomfortable for too long.
Can we bring our ... (dog, cat, lizard, pet bird)?
We always want to see your whole family (when we can)! That being said, you know your people and pets best. Think about where they are at their best, and if our location is going to make them nervous we can design the location around them.
Our Single Family Portrait Packages
All packages can be used as newborn/maternity sessions.
We really don't make a distinction between them - in terms of price.
It is just all a family celebration, whether or not all of us are earthside yet...
Local Portrait
Based in the Traverse City area, because we have so much magic right at out doorstep.
1 location. options:
- around Traverse City (downtown, the commons, the bay, marina, and trails near the city)
Package includes
- around 30 finished images
- 1 immediate family (up to 3 adults)
- online viewing gallery + full print rights
- usually takes like 45-60 mins

Adventure Portrait
Let’s explore NoMI! Our basic portrait travel session. This allows us to pick two locations in the NoMI area, and enough time to sink into both.
location options, two close by locations:
- around Traverse City
- Lake Michigan
- any of the towns that surround (like Empire, Leland, Old Mission, etc)
- Sleeping Bear Dunes (depending on the location, some of SBD takes up two locations)
Package includes
- around 40-50 finished images
- 2 nearby locations(approximate to one another (example- town of Empire, and nearby beach.)
- 1 immediate family (up to 3 adults)
- online viewing gallery + full print rights
- usually takes like 60-90 mins, but we can build in enough time for the kids to have a break and a snack

The Lakes Session
A curated experience centered around exploring some of the most beautiful, isolated beaches in the country.
For this session, we work together to create a concept around up to three different NoMI beaches and waterways. From the shores of Sleeping Bear National Lake shore, to the quiet coasts of Lake Michigan, we take a moment to breathe in this natural beauty.
location options, any three locations in these areas:
- around Traverse City
- Lake Michigan
- any of the towns that surround (like Empire, Leland, Old Mission, etc)
- Sleeping Bear Dunes (depending on the location, some of SBD takes up two locations)
Package includes
- 60+ finished images, but no real limit
- 1 immediate family (up to 3 adults)
- add up to two additional adults
- online viewing gallery + full print rights
- usually takes like 3-3.5, but we can build in enough time for the kids to have a break and a snack

The Dunes Session
A curated experience centered around the magic of the Sleeping Bear Dunes national lakeshore, this session gives us enough time to really explore and sink into the most beautiful locations in NoMI.
Sample route:
- Begin at Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive shooting in different locations among the scenic drive.
- End at the epic #9 lookout and hike out into the depths of the dunes
- Head to Sleeping Bear Point for a different/ more locals dunes viewpoint with NoMI trails and trees
- End at the beautiful beach near Glen Haven
Package includes
- over 90 finished images, but no real limit
- 1 immediate family (up to 3 adults)
- add up to two additional adults
- online viewing gallery + full print rights
- usually takes like 3.5, but we can build in enough time for the kids to have a break and a snack or even dinner at Art's Tavern

Our Family Gathering Portrait Packages
Family Gathering Session
A session designed when the whole family gets together. Designed to capture the one big family photo of everyone, and then enough time to break it down into each individual family household.
Package includes
- 1 hour session
- 1 location
- online viewing gallery + full print rights
- For small to medium multi-family gatherings
- usually takes around 1 hour

Family Gathering Adventure Session
Just like the previous session, designed with the WHOLE family in mind, but this time we get to go explore together. Still designed to capture the one big family photo of everyone, but now each household gets a little time exploring NoMI as a family. Can be designed with older family members in mind (big family photo at the first location, second location is more of a “hike”. for example.)

- 2 hour session
- up to 2 locations
- online viewing gallery + full print rights
- For small to medium multi-family gatherings
- usually takes around 1-1.5 hours

Order Prints, directly to your door
Our time together does not end when you get your images, we plan the entire shoot around creating beautiful artwork that you can use all through the year and beyond. From gallery walls to albums, from canvas to our special mounted prints, we have so many different options, we have ideas for everyone. And, of course, images for insta and social media.
