Noelle // Traverse City Senior Pictures
We strive to rebel against the conventional in senior pictures. There’s nothing wrong with taking a posed shot or two to meet yearbook restrictions or to match the shots on Grandma’s wall of fame. But we find that high school seniors are at a point in their lives where they can’t be so easily defined or captured. It’s a time of change, of solidifying identity.
Noelle is the prime example of the unconventional senior. She specifically asked to shoot with us in locations that were “urban” but “with unique architecture”.
Traverse City is an ever-changing place. But if you look hard, there are pockets here and there that still maintain that vintage vacation town vibe. You might not think of an office building as a setting that breeds creativity, but this one especially nails a retro look that’s almost been lost to time.
When we’re shooting Traverse City senior pictures, we like to focus on the more unique aspects of the architecture that surrounds us. Playing with lines and shadows is different at every time of day, every season of the year. We love this city.
Taking to the back-side of town reveals a multitude of what we like to call “micro-locations:” tiny pockets that bleed personality. Doorways, alleys, exposed walls, areas being renovated… they can reflect your style, your personality, and your unique vibe.
And just outside of town, like literally minutes away, are these pristine natural areas that have their own geometry and unique light to explore.
We live in a place that’s literally surrounded by beauty, and that is key to so much of what it means to be “from” Northern Michigan. Being around these landscapes on every drive to and from town becomes part of our identity, and what better way to reflect that than by stepping back into nature and letting it literally engulf us?
Everyone has a place that’s perfect for them- that matches them aesthetically and mentally. That’s why we take such careful steps to get to know who we are shooting and find spaces that represent you. And sometimes… sometimes it works so well that it just takes your breath away.
Looking for something familiar? Head over to this other set… it’s KINDA like this one, but just a little bit. Abigail
