We are fortunate that we get to photograph couples of all walks of life, in a huge array of locations. One of our favorite aspects of this work is making sure that the location means something or says something about the couple we are there with, to this point not everyone wants to brave the icy cold Lake Michigan temps of this Northern Michigan winter engagement. Olivia and Phil were so down for it, and even though it was below freezing. Maybe it was their closeness and cozy hugs that kept them warm, maybe it was that thick Northern Michigan blood, or maybe it felt a bit warmer as it had been in the -14 range the week before.
All of these led to an amazing, and completely unique shoot. Lake Michigan was partially frozen over, as were some of the smaller lakes in the area. Truly a look at Northern Michigan that few get to experience. With their wedding coming up this summer in Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, one of the most beautiful places in the midwest, it makes sense that their Northern Michigan winter engagement shows the other side of this incredible landscape.
Working with other photographers is a wonderful experience (Olivia is the magic behind Capturing Light Photos) , by the end you are collaborating on an epic event with friends that you are excited to see get married.
Winter is cold, but these two remind us that keeping loved ones close will get us through any chill.
