A community answer to photography education.
Our Photo Club is a photography community we have been running for more than six years. It started because photography education had a gatekeeping problem and photography groups had a competition problem, and we thought both were fixable.
It is a separate thing from the studio. Different name, different site, its own people. If you found us because we photographed your wedding, this is the other half of what we do.
What is actually there
Some of it is free and always will be. Some of it costs money. None of it requires you to be good yet.
In-person, around Northern Michigan. You show up with whatever camera you own, we go shoot, and you meet people who are working on the same things you are.
Ongoing conversations about photography, the working kind rather than the gear-review kind. Free, and a decent place to start if you want to know how we think before you meet us.
An app that gives you a prompt and gets you out the door. It exists because the hardest part of getting better is usually just deciding what to shoot today.
For when you want to go deeper on something specific. This is the part that costs money, and it is deliberately not the first thing we hand you.
Why it works
Nobody has to earn their way in, and the free parts stay free. If you have had your camera in a closet for two years, you are exactly who this is for.
Photography does not have to be a competition. When we work together we all get better work.
If you are in Northern Michigan you can come stand in a field with us. If you are not, there is plenty you can do from wherever you are.
