Every once in a while, we like to break from convention and have a day just to shoot rapid-fire mini sessions! We love getting to share these concentrated doses of life with so many of your families and significant others. Here are 5 tips to get the most out of the short time we spend together!

1. Framing this to your family

You probably know this just by following us on Instagram, or maybe you’ve shot with us before, but these aren’t your typical family portraits. We’re not asking you to put a stop to your weekend and pose in a studio; we’re intersecting for a few brief moments on a day you’ll be spending together as a family regardless. So make sure to let the fam know: this is going to be fun. If the kids are wild, let ‘em go wild.

2. Coordinate, don't match

Now, don’t get us wrong, there is nothing wrong with a styled shoot. In fact, we love those. A lot. But since we’re only going to be together for a few short moments, you shouldn’t go through the effort and stress of making sure everyone matches grandma’s broach. So just a quick visual pass will do— as long as major clashes aren't happening, we will make it work!

3. Be on time, 'cause time is short

This one sounds obvious, but there’s a reason we’re bringing it up! Ordinarily, we don’t have to worry about five minutes here or there. But there are lots of families who will be out today, and we don’t want you or anyone else feeling rushed or cramped for time. Again, it’s all about making sure you and the fam are relaxed and enjoying each others’ company. And speaking of being on-time…

4. Map the location in advance

We have heard it time and time again from our clients: “woah, I didn’t know this place was back here!” We’re not bragging, but we like to shoot off the beaten path, so to speak. So if you haven’t visited this location before, make sure you know where it is and how to get there, and account for traffic! And feel free to hang out and hike or relax afterward, because we always pick a spot that highlights the hidden beauty of our town.

5. Trust the process

In the abstract, 10 minutes can seem like a long time. Especially if you’re sitting at a desk or in the backseat of a car. But when you’re exploring nature with your loved ones, it can be easy to feel like, “woah, it’s over already?” Trust us— this is all according to plan.

We do mini sessions because they work, and we have repeat customers because people are so happy with the result. Think of it as the equivalent of a photo booth: this brief moment in time you’re all together, and then that feeling of anticipation before you get the photos back in all their glory.

So that's it! We are so excited to get to hang with you, and to have something to present to you in just a few short days. Hopefully y'all are feeling the anticipation build-- get ready to let it out!

If you have not already booked your session, there is a chance we still have a few slots open. Head over here to see our current offerings: https://allen-kentphotography.com/mini-sessions

I am a coffee loving, extroverted nerd who is always ready for a great conversation. I dream big, I’m terrible at directions, yet I can explain in detail how a black hole works. People describe me as a golden retriever, which I take as the highest of compliments.
