The sleeping bear dunes national lakeshore is one of Northern Michigan's biggest features. In a region known for flat ground as far as the eye can see, we turn the midwest on it's head by giving you: sandy beaches, coastlines for days (3,288 miles to be specific 🎤*mic drop* 🎤), and towering dunes that stagger the mind whether you are at the top of the bottom.
It is on that setting that we follow our friends Devin and Daniel on a hike through part of the park.

Watching these two play... infectious! Their motions in perfect time with each other. Devin is a yoga instructor at Yen Yoga, so that motion makes sense.
We ending up staying quite a bit later than we planned, which is honestly a part of spending time in time in this park. The landscapes lend themselves to lengthly inspection. Plus, as the sun melts into the water, leaving a trail of luminous orange from shore to horizon, it can be hard to break your attention away from the lake.
The park can be pretty frenetic in the day time, kids running up and down the dunes, families yelling and taking photos. But, on the slower days, on the cooler evenings, and on the lesser known trails the park is a place of quiet and privacy. There is something magical about NoMI in the summer, but being a step away from civilization, and deep in the woods or trails this landscape unfolds and speaks to you. Our winter can be hard, but what we sacrifice December, we make up for by having one of the most unique summers in the country.

Sleeping Bear Dunes holds a special place in my heart for the reason that I spent my brothers last good days there before he passed away. I loved seeing these two get their pictures taken there. ❤️ The pics! Thank you for sharing. Denise
