Sleeping Bear Dunes · Northern Michigan
You've been planning this moment for months. We've been shooting proposals here for years. Let's make sure you're actually present for it.
Why This Place
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is one of the most visually extraordinary places in the midwest — 35 miles of dune-covered bluffs, old growth forest, and Lake Michigan stretching as far as you can see. It doesn't matter what season. It doesn't matter what weather. This place is consistently, reliably stunning.
We've shot proposals here in golden June light, in misty September fog, and in winter when the dunes are snow-covered and completely empty. Every version of this place is beautiful. And every version gives your photos something most photographers never get — real environment, real scale, real emotion.
When your partner sees the images, they'll remember exactly how it felt to stand there. That's the whole point.
Know the Land
When you tell us what your partner loves — wide open views, quiet forest trails, the feeling of being completely alone — we know exactly where to take you.
The Lake Michigan Overlook here is arguably the most iconic view in Northern Michigan. Golden hour from this bluff is something people drive hours to see. It can get crowded in peak summer — we know the timing window that gives you space.
Raw, physically demanding, and worth every step. The climb itself becomes part of the story — arriving breathless at the top, Lake Michigan suddenly below you. High energy, high drama, unforgettable images.
A longer hike with a dramatic reward — a high bluff overlooking Lake Michigan with near-total privacy. Best for couples who want space, quiet, and the feeling of having found something secret.
Short hike, massive payoff. A forested trail opens to a sweeping Lake Michigan panorama. One of the best sunset locations in the park and almost always quieter than Pierce Stocking.
Wide open Lake Michigan shoreline with the historic cannery buildings in the background. Classic Northern Michigan — blue water, driftwood, clear light. Perfect for intimate beach proposals.
The paved trail that runs through the heart of the park opens up endless in-between moments — pulling your person off the path to a quiet meadow or a hidden lake view. Works beautifully as a casual "walk" cover story.

How We Work
The single biggest thing that goes wrong with proposal photography isn't the camera — it's the person proposing being so wound up in logistics that they're not actually there for the moment. Our entire process is built around solving that problem.
We work with you ahead of time, walk through every detail, and put a plan in place that gives you confidence. On the day, you stop being the coordinator and start being the one proposing. That's what creates the photographs.
Fill out our contact form. We respond fast. We keep communication discreet from the start — we know you're planning a surprise.
We talk through your partner, your relationship, and what kind of moment you want. Then we pick the location, the time, and the logistics — together.
You know where to stand, what's about to happen, and that we're already in position. All you have to do is be present.
Delivered to your private gallery. Ready to share, print, or turn into the engagement announcement you've been imagining.
"Brooke and Michael are magical. They collaborate flawlessly. I know what y'all are thinking — yes, we have the best photographers EVER who can capture the most perfect little moments and make them the big ones."

Common Questions
For a personal proposal without commercial photography, no permit is typically required. As a photography business operating in the park, we carry our own vendor credentials. We handle that side of it — you don't need to worry about it.
Late May through early October are the most popular windows. June and September are our personal favorites — less crowded than July/August, and the light is exceptional. That said, we've shot beautiful winter proposals here when the dunes are snow-covered and completely empty.
We communicate exclusively with you — your partner never hears from us before the proposal. We also help you build a believable cover story for why you're there. We've seen a lot of successful surprises. We know what works.
Summer dates fill up fast. If you're planning a June, July, or August proposal, reach out at least 6–8 weeks ahead. Spring and fall have more flexibility, but we still recommend not waiting — good dates go quickly.
Honestly? Some of our most stunning images have come from overcast or stormy days. Dramatic skies, moody light, and an empty park can be incredible. We'll talk through the forecast together and make the call that's right for you.
Yes — and we love it when couples do this. The energy right after a proposal is something you can't manufacture. We can stay out and turn it into a full engagement session while you're still in that moment. Just let us know when you book.
