Traverse City Sailboat Elopement on West Bay

This Traverse City sailboat elopement aboard the Classic Yacht Althea — part of the Compass Rose Sailing Co. fleet — was the perfect mix of laid-back and meaningful.

On an overcast August evening, K + J exchanged vows privately on board surrounded by just their closest family.

While the sky threatened rain, it never delivered. The weather actually turned out to be perfect, giving us some wonderfully complex skies and soft, beautiful light.

Because the boat could only hold a few people, we joined them shortly after they said “I do,” photographing as the boat made its way back into the harbor.

Portraits, Family, and a Little Magic

The Althea’s vintage charm made for some intimate portraits inside the cabin, followed by family photos along the docks. It was a quiet, meaningful celebration — and a perfect example of how beautiful (and low-key) elopements can be with the right setting.

Whether you're planning something adventurous on the water or a simple ceremony with your favorite people, we love helping couples capture these moments in a way that feels true to them.

I am a coffee loving, extroverted nerd who is always ready for a great conversation. I dream big, I’m terrible at directions, yet I can explain in detail how a black hole works. People describe me as a golden retriever, which I take as the highest of compliments.
